Accommodation is among the most private and spacious of its kind, built into the jungle, clearings and above the Ayung river. RESIDENCES: There are five Residences, each with four or five suites and a large swimming pool:

BAYUGITA: Bayugita (Windsong) is an architectural exercise in simplicity, combining the simple lines of Balinese tradition with details from colonial Java (Victorian antique baths, Venetian and Dutch colonial beds). Cooling breezes move through the interior, comprising a 96sq metre master suite with private Jacuzzi, one 80sq metre deluxe suite, two standard suites and a study, which can be converted into an additional bedroom or used for spa treatments. If the Residence is booked in its entirety, guests share the living/dining area adjoining the master suite. There is a dramatic infinity-edge pool stretching towards rice fields.

TIRTA-ENING: Tirta-Ening (Clear Water) is dominated by a 91sq metre principal suite with an exquisite Japanese water garden featuring a private waterfall. The entire Residence has a Zen feel. The sound of water can be heard throughout. The dining and living rooms cover some 113 square metres, and are happily shared with guests booked into Tirta-Ening, deluxe suite or two terrace suites. The pool is stunning. There is a central floating pavilion constructed from batu kuning (yellow rock) and teak wood with an ironwood shingled roof, reminiscent of old Javanese homes. Other highlights include hand-carved doors, stone carvings and Chinese antiques.

TEJASUARA: Tejasuara (Sound of Fire) is a bold, primitive-style Residence, inspired by Sumba (1200 tonnes of stone imported from this island were used in its construction). Detailing includes tribal cloth furnishing, black bamboo beds and thatch roofing. A fire pit burns beside the infinity pool, which overlooks fields of lemongrass, a spice also endemic to Sumba. The two terrace suites are substantial each 83 square metres, exceeding the 70sq metre master suite, which has a private Jacuzzi, outdoor shower, meditation garden, courtyard and pavilion. There is a large communal living and dining room, a deluxe suite and study/extra bedroom.

WANAKASA: Wanakasa (Forest in the Mist) comprises a master suite with private Jacuzzi, a deluxe suite, terrace suite, two standard suites and a study/extra bedroom. It is set amongst the trees, the pool semi-circular edge echoing the bend of the Ayung River that lies 100 metres below. The main living pavilion is supported by huge columns fashioned from the wide trunks of bingkirai trees. Together with teak floors and the ironwood shingle roofs, it feels like a five-star tree-house. Interiors have a contemporary edge, fashioned from light-speckled tiger bamboo and 150-year-old teak.

UMA BONA: Umabona (House of the Earth) boasts The Estate's grandest accommodation the Royal Suite, comprising two master suites, a Jacuzzi, private infinity pool, living room and dining room (308 square metres). In addition, there is a terrace suite, standard suite and study all sharing a pool, living and dining room with a wood-fired pizza oven. The aesthetic is inspired by the Majapahit palaces and their formal pleasure gardens. Interiors include hand carvings, fine antiques, courtly furniture, gilding, richly painted walls and precious textiles. Views are exceptional, looking towards Mount Batu Karu.

VILLAS: There are five one, two and three-bedroom standalone Villas with assorted living space and private pools. Pita Linggar (Golden Space) comprises 2 master bedrooms (with indoor and outdoor bathrooms) and 1 guest bedroom (on pool level). This two-storey villa is characterised by an expanse of space, with a living, dining and kitchen area, in addition to a garden, decking, Jacuzzi and an infinity-edge swimming pool (10m x 4m).

GIRI ANTARA (Distant Mountain) includes 2 master bedrooms and 1 guest bedroom. It is well-positioned with peerless views. The specification is similar to Pita Linggar (total covered space is 275m2 as opposed to the latter's 299m2).

SUKMA TARU (Spirit Tree) comprises 1 master bedroom and 1 guest bedroom, with spectacular views of the wild river valley. It has a lively, open ambience, with plenty of pool deck space and an outdoor bale. It is the smallest of the three three-bedroom villas, covering 184m2 with an infinity-edge swimming pool (9m x 4m).

GESING KANILA (Bamboo Whispering) comprises 1 master bedroom. It is quiet and secluded, surrounded by bamboo trees. There is a substantial upstairs balcony, as well as a living, dining and kitchen area (42m2). The garden has an infinity-edge swimming pool (7.7m x 4m) and Jacuzzi.

CHANDRA MURNI (Pure Moon) comprises 1 master bedroom and 1 guest bedroom over 163m2. Quiet and completely private, this villa provides memorable views of the surrounding mountain peaks. There is a living/dining area and separate kitchen, in addition to a garden with swimming pool (9mx10m) and Jacuzzi.

GARDEN VILLAS: There are three two-bedroom Garden Villas which feature living, dining, kitchen areas and private pools. Garden Villas are called Kusumalaya (House of Flowers), Shantivana (Peaceful Forest) and Saundarya (Beauty). Each villa has two king size bedrooms (one can be a twin), one master bedroom, with dressing room, bathroom (double vanity unit), steam/shower, outdoor shower, extensive outdoor deck, living/dining room and private 12m pool with Jacuzzi jet. The upper level has one guest bedroom (king) with its own outdoor terrace, shower room, double vanity unit bathroom and dressing room.
